If you forget your Windows 7 password, you can use a password reset disk to create a new one. This reset disk can be created before you have an issue and not after you have forgotten your password. 1. Log onto the account that for which you need to create a password reset disk.
2. Insert the portable media you will use to create a password reset disk on into the computer. This means that you will need a flash drive or a floppy disk drive and blank floppy disk.
3. From the “Start” menu open the “Control Panel”.
4. Click on the “User Accounts and Family Safety” link. (Note: If you’re viewing the Large icons or Small icons view of Control Panel, you won’t see this link.)
5. Click “User Accounts”.
6. At the left pane of the “User Accounts” window, click on “Create a Password Reset Disk”.
7. Within the “Forgotten Password Wizard” box, follow the instructions to make the disk.
8. Label the disk or flash drive “Windows 7 Password Reset” and store it in a safe place.
How to use Windows 7 password reset disk
1. Once you have a password reset disk, you can use it easily the next time you forget your password… once you’ve typed the wrong password Windows 7 will show a “Reset password” link below the login box.
2. Click “Reset password”, and then insert the password reset disk into your computer.
3. You should get a password reset wizard on screen.
4. Follow the Wizard to reset Windows 7 password.
